Course description
This MOOC explores how generative AI can support teachers and trainers in designing high-quality educational content without replacing their role as guides. Through an examination of how AI works, ethical considerations, prompt engineering, and use cases, the course demonstrates how to create lesson plans, scripts, slides, case studies, and quizzes, with human validation and a focus on inclusion and personalization.

This MOOC was produced as part of the Edvance project – Digital Education Hub per la Cultura Digitale Avanzata. The project is funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU, Component 1, Investment 3.4 “Didattica e competenze universitarie avanzate".
Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of this MOOC, participants will be able to:
- understand the operating principles and ethical limitations (biases, hallucinations) of generative AI in an academic context
ESCO: data ethics - apply advanced prompt engineering strategies to obtain accurate and relevant outputs
ESCO: use digital instruments - designing the structure of a course (syllabus, learning objectives) by leveraging AI as a creative partner
ESCO: developing educational programmes - create text-based and multimedia educational materials (scripts, images, slides) while minimizing production time
ESCO: develop digital educational materials - develop a variety of assessment methods (quizzes, rubrics) and provide personalized feedback on a large scale
ESCO: assessment processes - configure basic virtual assistants and adapt content to ensure greater inclusivity and accessibility

No formal knowledge is required.
Activities
Over and above consulting the content, in the form of videos and other web-based resources, you will have the opportunity to discuss course topics and to share ideas with your peers in the Forum of this MOOC. The forum of this MOOC is freely accessible, and participation is not guided; you can use it to compare yourself with other participants, or to discuss course contents with them.

Week 1 introduces teachers and trainers to the responsible use of generative AI. The first video explains how Large Language Models work; the second explores the ecosystem of AI tools for education, covering general-purpose tools, specialized tools, bias, and copyright. The week includes quizzes, an in-depth look at the AI Literacy Framework, and a toolkit with checklists to assess the reliability of outputs.
Assessment
Your final grade for the course will be based on the results of your answers to the assessed quizzes. You have an unlimited number of attempts at each quiz, but you must wait 15 minutes before you can try again. You will have successfully completed the course if you score 60% (or higher) in each one of the assessed quizzes. The maximum score possible for each quiz is given at the beginning of the quiz. You can view your score in the quiz on your last attempt or on the 'Grades' page.
Certificate
You can achieve a certificate in the form of an Open Badge for this course, if you reach at least 60% of the total score in each one of the assessed quizzes and fill in the final survey.
Once you have completed the required tasks, you will be able to access ‘Get the Open Badge’ and start issuing the badge. Instructions on how to access the badge will be sent to your e-mail address.
The Badge does not confer any academic credit, grade or degree.

Aluisi Tosolini
Teacher
Educational philosopher and scientific coordinator of Casco Learning. A school administrator for twenty years, he is one of the founders of the Educational Avant-garde Movement. National coordinator of the Network of Schools for Peace. He has taught pedagogy at the University of Parma and the Catholic University of Piacenza and is the author of numerous publications on interculturalism, educational innovation, and active citizenship. He collaborates with various publications and research centers on methodological and digital innovation.
Mara Fornari
Teacher
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and a Ph.D. in Sociology and Political Science. She teaches Philosophy and History and serves as a trainer on topics such as digital citizenship, assessment, and innovative teaching methods. For years, she has been actively collaborating with the National Coordination of the Network of Schools for Peace and with Casco Learning. She is the author of several books on topics related to intercultural studies, political sociology, and pedagogical and educational issues.
