Gender-based violence: how to become an active bystander
Course description
In this course, you will learn about Gender-Based Violence (GBV): its roots, causes, and manifestations. You will understand that GBV is a global phenomenon that can only be eradicated through collective action. Finally, you will learn how to become an active bystander and play a meaningful role in addressing this issue.

Intended Learning Outcomes
At the end of this MOOC you will gather competences in recognizing what gender-based violence is and in knowing its causes. You will also learn about national and international legislative frameworks and policies; you will become aware of your potential role as an ally in standing by those experiencing GBV.

Assessment
The final grade for the course is based on your results from your responses to the graded quizzes. You will successfully complete the course if you reach 60% (or more) of the total score. The maximum score possible for each quiz is given at the top of the quiz. You can see your score in the quiz on your last attempt or on the 'Grades' page.
Certificate of accomplishment
You must be registered in POK through Politecnico di Milano personal account to obtain the Certificate of Accomplishment. It will be released to anyone who successfully completed the course by achieving at least 60% of the total score in the graded quizzes and filling the final survey. You will be able to download the Certificate of Accomplishment directly from Politecnico di Milano web services. The Certificate of Accomplishment does not confer any academic credit, grade or degree.

Silvia Barattieri
Silvia Barattieri is the Head of the Equal Opportunities Unit of Politecnico di Milano; in her role, she works to implement the University’s diversity & inclusion mission statement, leading efforts to increase equal opportunities in the work and study environment. She holds a MSc and a PhD in History form the University of Milan, and has focused her studies and interests in the field of Women’s studies.
Valeria Baudo
Project manager specialized in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. She currently works at the Equal Opportunities Unit of Politecnico di Milano. She coordinated the MOOC "Gender-Based Violence: How to Become an Active Bystander”
Francesca Casnati
Communication Designer, PhD. Her area of interest lies at the intersection of Communication Design, Gender Studies and Feminist Studies. Since 2018, she has been a member of the DCxCG research group, Communication Design for Gender Cultures, at the Department of Design, Politecnico di Milano. She cooperates with the Gender Cultures Inter-University Research Centre. She is coordinator of the project "We say stop".
Dalila D'Ingeo
I am a sociocultural anthropologist working as a researcher and consultant at Valore D, an association of companies that helps organizations to promote inclusion and equity as a competitive factor of growth. I have a long-standing experience in business ethnography, mixed-methods research, data analysis and scientific writing. I also love designing and teaching DE&I workshops for different training contexts.
Sveva Magaraggia
Sveva Magaraggia, PhD, Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology and Social Research, University of Milan - Bicocca.
She works on youth, intimacy and gender based violence. Her publications include Male and Female Violence in Popular Media, Bloomsbury Academic, London (with E. Giomi in 2022).
Andrea Santoro
Counsellor, writer and researcher on gender studies and in particular male culture and its transformations. Chair of the association "Cerchio degli uomini", he runs programs and workshops on men and masculinities, gender based violence and bullying prevention, engaged fatherhood.
Igor Šuran
Executive Director of "Parks – Liberi e Uguali", Italy’s premier non-profit association of employers engaged in LGBT+ inclusion in the workplace. He is a seasoned trainer on diversity management, inclusive leadership and LGTB+ inclusion to businesses and public institutions, lecturer at universities and speaker at Italian and international conferences.
Mara Tanelli
Mara Tanelli is full professor of Automatic Control and Rector's delegate for Diversity and Inclusion, with competencies also for psychological support. From 2020 to 2023 she served as Ombudswoman of the Politecnico di Milano.
Silvia Terrana
Silvia Terrana is a Milan Police Commissioner and head of the "Nucleo Tutela Donne e Minori," a unit dedicated to protecting women and minors from violence.
