Course description
This MOOC provides a structured and engaging pathway to guide learners in preparing for an internship, helping them fully understand its educational and professional value. Through practical tools and clear guidance, participants are supported from the active search for an opportunity to its successful activation, with a focus on procedures, roles, and responsibilities, as well as key topics such as data confidentiality and intellectual property. The course is designed for students and recent graduates who are planning to undertake a curricular or extracurricular internship, in Italy or abroad.
Completing the MOOC is strongly recommended prior to the activation of any type of internship. For compulsory or optional curricular internships related to a thesis or non-thesis experience with an academic supervisor abroad, earning the final open badge is mandatory.

This Week introduces the concept of the internship and highlights the elements that distinguish it from other types of work-based experiences. It presents the main rules and regulatory references, the roles of the host organisation supervisor and the academic supervisor, as well as the support provided by the Career Service. At the end of the week, a short quiz allows learners to check their understanding of the key concepts.

This Week outlines the main channels for identifying internship opportunities, from the Career Service job and internships offers board to spontaneous applications and direct contacts with organizations. It also introduces dedicated platforms, professional social networks, and typical timelines for finding internship opportunities in Italy and abroad. At the end of the week, a short quiz allows learners to check their understanding of the key concepts.

This Week guides learners through the procedures required to formally activate an internship. For internships in Italy, it outlines the internship agreement, the internship document and the relevant timelines. For internships abroad, it focuses on the Internship Agreement managed through the Career Service portal, the handling of non-standard documentation, and specific timelines. The role of the academic supervisor in thesis-related internships is also clarified. At the end of the week, a short quiz allows the learners to check their understanding of the key concepts.

This Week addresses the legal aspects specifically related to internships, with a focus on intellectual property and confidentiality obligations. The video lecture presents typical scenarios, common critical issues, and good practices for operating in contexts involving sensitive data or research outcomes. At the end of the week, a graded quiz is used to assess learning outcomes.

This Week provides guidance on how to approach the internship experience proactively. It addresses changes that may occur during the internship period, such as extensions, suspensions, early termination, and business trips, as well as financial aspects including allowances, reimbursements, and tax-related matters. The aim is to prepare interns to operate with autonomy and awareness throughout the experience. At the end of the week, a short quiz allows learners to check their understanding of the key concepts.

It outlines the timelines for final administrative requirements, highlights the importance of mutual feedback, and introduces approaches for reflecting on and documenting the competences developed during the experience. At the end of the week, a short quiz allows learners to check their understanding of the key concepts.

Assessment
Your final grade for the course will be based on the results of your answers to the assessed quizzes. You have an unlimited number of attempts at each quiz. You will have successfully completed the course if you score a total of 60% (or higher) in all assessed quizzes.
The maximum score possible for each quiz is given at the beginning of the quiz. You can view your score in the quiz on your last attempt or on the 'Grades' page.
Certificate
You can achieve a certificate in the form of an Open Badge for this course, if you obtain, at least, 60% of the total score in the graded quizzes and by filling in the final survey.
Once you have completed the required tasks, you will be able to access ‘Get the Open Badge’ and start issuing the badge. Instructions on how to access the badge will be sent to your e-mail address.
The Badge does not confer any academic credit, grade or degree.
